EATING DISORDERS

Although babies are in tune with their hunger signals from birth, life experiences can interfere with this natural relationship, and people can forget how to listen to their bodies' innate needs and messages.

Veronica will work with you at your pace through a strength-based model of care to empower you towards healthy balanced eating. You will learn new ways to heal from trauma, to make order from disorder, to self-regulate, to co-regulate, to let go of the tight reigns of control, and to become well again.

Traditional therapies such as enhanced CBT for eating disorders, FBT, and nutritional education are used as well as somatic techniques, mindfulness strategies, polyvagal techniques, and guided meditation.

What is an eating disorder?

  • Eating disorders are medical illnesses
  • You can't tell if someone has an eating disorder by just looking at them
  • Over eating and under eating in combination with disordered thoughts  and feelings about food, body, and weight can be treated well with the right psychological strategies
  • Family members often need to be educated on how to support someone with disordered eating
  • Yes, you can recover and no, you don’t have to do it perfectly

Treatment may involve

  • Cognitive behavioural therapy
  • Hypnosis
  • Family based therapy
  • Temperament based treatment
  • Nutritional education (dietician lead)
